South Beach Diet Wrap Sandwich Review
Kraft has come out with the new South Beach diet products, and some of them work fine on an Atkins diet, and some of them have way too many carbs. (Scroll down to the Post Carbwell Cereal entry from the link above for more on the 40 grams of carbs in some products.)
The South Beach Sandwich Wrap Kits, or the "Low Carb Lunchables", are OK in terms of carbs. Some kids, like my own, would just love to be able to eat Lunchables every day. Of course, I wouldn't let them, they maybe get them once a year, but the South Beach products try to fill this niche for adults. My kids want to try them at this stage, but I just haven't gotten around to it yet.
I have tried the Southwestern Chicken and my husband has also tried it. We thought they were OK in a pinch, but we would much prefer to make our own lunches. We make the time to prepare them. Some people may not have that time.
The Southwestern chicken seemed like the most acceptable of all the choices because it was something that we wouldn't normally make ourselves. A plain ham and cheese, easy to whip up. Even the Chicken Caesar Wrap is something we make quite often -- but Southwestern we don't make as much.
We would probably buy these once a year, probably not what Kraft wants to hear, of course.
The ingredient list took me an hour to get into html format because it is so long. It encompasses the tortillas, the fillings, and the jello. I have no idea what some of these chemicals are either.
I would love to hear your thoughts.

I agree with Katherine that some of the new South Beach products are kind of disappointing, and I am a fairly committed South Beacher (although everyone does their own version or "low carb" depending on what their own food preferences are). But even if you subscribe to the "good carbs" aspect of South Beach, 26 carbs in one of those little wraps is quite a lot. I could get a lot of good food for that kind of carb investment. I think in general it's best to cook your own food so you know what you're getting and use these kind of foods just for those emergency times when you have to eat something fast and get on with life.

Although I generally agree with that statement, please don't forget that there are 15 grams of fiber. That's quite alot for any meal and these truly are a good alternative to other fast food fairs.

I agree with Sharon, they have a high fiber count and that must be factored in. My daughter likes to take them for her school lunches as she is on the s.b. diet and has lost over 65 pounds.

I don't know, I think I'll spend my carb count elsewhere, thank you very much.

One can hardly argue with a 65 pound loss...Bonnie, tell your daughter way to go!!!

I wish I could find low-carb wraps that are high in fiber like the south beach wraps...
The tortillas you can buy at most grocery stores just don't cut it... Flat-Out Brand Carbdown flat breads aren't bad, and they make great sandwiche wraps.. but I'd love it if draft would sell full size wraps like the ones in the south beach lunches...

Why do you worry so much about carb intake when carbs are needed to fuel your body and feed your brain? Without a decent amount of carbs your brain ROTS. I've lost over 75 pounds in a year by just changing my eating style and the kind of liquids I put into my body, you'd be surprised what you're eating (And how many calories) if you write down everything you eat in a day... just cut down that's all and move around for at least 45 minutes a day. :D

I find your blog often as a result of my searching for food to eat (and more info about) while diagnosed a gestational diabetic -- where one who is pregnant gets to eat a limited number of carbs per meal or snack, and foods that are high in protein and fiber are a bonus. I tried the South Beach Diet Sesame Chicken wrap sandwich kit today and enjoyed it! It's fat content can't be compared with those Lunchables at all. 9 grams of fat is pretty decent for a packed lunch. (Many Weight Watchers microwave SmartOnes meals and Lean Cuisines have the same amount of fat content.) Thanks to all the fiber (15 grams), I was also able to eat a large banana afterward and remain within my lunch carb limit. The high protein (21 grams) is fantastic!
