There seems to be a whole new category of products that have lower carbs (always good) but still too many carbs (not so good.) These products are probably fine for people who are at their goal weight and exercise a lot. (This takes me (and I assume a lot of my readers) out of the running!)
Monterey Pasta has come out with 6 types of lower carb(?) raviolis and pastas: Fettucini Classic Egg, Linguine Classic Egg, Four Cheese & Chive Ravioli, Seafood Ravioli, Spinach Ricotta Ravioli, Spinach and Cheese Tortelloni, and Four Cheese Sauce. These packages advertise from 13g to 22g of carbs per serving, but watch the serving size! For each package there are 2.5 servings. I tell you, that you would have to eat at least half the package, and I fear that most people will eat the whole package. (This 2.5 thing really burns me though. I would have cut them some slack if it were just 2, but who the heck is going to eat the .5 serving?)
Costco also carries a burrito from the same company (I couldn't find the product on their website) but the serving size for THAT is 1/2 a burrito. Who the heck are they trying to kid here? Everyone eats a whole burrito. I was really excited when I first picked up the package, and I almost didn't read the nutritional information, but I'm glad I did. I quickly put it back. I'll try to remember to get the nutritional information the next time I go, but please, please ALWAYS look at the back of the package of everything you buy.
Now, about the pasta, I tried it, it was good, but I think that I'll stay with my lower carb offerings for now, since I'm out of the target market.
