Stop & Shop advertised the newest entry into the salty snack low carb arena, Doritos Edge and Tostitos Edge. I went hunting for the products in the regular snack aisle, since Stop & Shop has made it a policy to mix the "diet" products in with the regular products. Well, they weren't there. I asked, and I found them on the bottom shelf of the bargain aisle.
I brought all three kinds they had in stock home, opened up the Doritos Ranch flavor, bit, and didn't like it at all. It was papery. Now, you have to understand, I am spoiled by having a Trader Joe's right near me. I regularly go into Trader Joe's and purchase their Joe's Lows products, full bags for $1.99, and these products have 8 or 9 grams of carbs in them for the same serving size. The Doritos Edge has 6 grams of net carbs. The Doritos Edge product is also a lot more expensive, $2.99 for a 6 oz. bag versus $1.99 for a 12 oz bag of the Trader Joe's tortilla chips and $1.99 for a 5 oz bag of the nacho chipes. (Although, in comparison to the other low carb chip products on the market, the Doritos price is a steal!) The Trader Joe's products are much more substantial and not papery at all.
Now, I had my family try them, and my opinion was shared by my husband, although he would eat them, but vehemently different from my daughter (who doesn't like the Trader Joe products) and somewhat different from my son (who does like the Trader Joe products.)
My daughter loved the Doritos Edge and the Tostitos Edge. She immediately joined my husband by eating some with salsa. (My husband usually liked to eat some salsa and chips when he comes home from work. He is basically at goal. I save up my allotment of chips for when I make a seven-layer dip.) My son just liked them plain. I had been looking for something else to put in my daughter's lunch once she started to overdose on the Girlfriend's Booty Barbecue Flavor twists, and now I have found something that I can put in when pressed. (I guess variety is important to her. My son, on the other hand, has such a monotonous menu, I don't know how he can stand it.) My son, the carbmonster, could eat a whole bag of the Doritos Edge or the Tostitos Edge, but he could do the same with the Trader Joe's products.
The upshot of all this? I will continue to buy the Trader Joe's brands for myself, my husband, and my son, but I will purchase the Doritos and Tostitos for my daughter.

I loved eating the Tostitos Edge chips !
I could eat them knowing they were low carb and helping me while I am losing weight .They might not taste exactly like the orginal , but what the hay ! Anything that my mind says its close enough to the original is a big help to me.
I can not find them in the stores any more . In fact every thing I found a few months ago that were low carb is off the shelves .
Surely there are enough people that do like the Tostitos Edge that there is a store somewhere that we can buy them. OR even order them .
Nothing else , give me the recipe and I'll make them at home myself !
