Jeesie Peesie, they are at it again. They are comparing mice fertility (herbivores -- they eat plants, etc.) with human fertility (omnivores -- they eat meat) on a basically omnivore trait -- protein in the diet and blasting Atkins. Now, I am all for studying this more:
It seems the problems with the current studies is that 1/3 of the people may have trouble with cholesterol and a high fat diet.... so with the one size fits all approach advocated by a lot of 'stick in the mud' nutritionists, that means it must be unhealthy for all. (Never mind the study after study that has come out to refute the unhealthy claims.)
Now, since some mice have problems, that means all humans will have problems too. We have multi-species nutritional advice being advocated in this country! Forget about individual nutritional advice!
And just wait, Henry Higgins, until Dr. Phil and all the others will be trumpeting this study and not the many other studies that have validated how well Atkins works up through a year. (And give Atkins a break, that is the longest that it has been allowed to be studied in the general science realm because everyone was deadset against studying it in the first place (until everyday people began using it and doggone it, it worked!) because of course it was bad because only grain is good. Damn science!)
