My husband has been living off of the Hi-Lo cereal that is available at Trader Joe's for $1.99 and also available at Shaw's for considerably more money. He eats it with a little cream and berries. I got him Total Protein and he didn't like it right away. The kids liked it, but then they didn't. (I guess this is why you need to come back and ask again after a while.) Well, the Special K has come out, tastes better, and costs much less than the Total Protein. (Wow, didn't I just say the exact same thing about the new Atkins Carb Countdown Yogurt? Is this going to be a theme?) My husband says that he would like to rotate the Hi-Lo (his cereal gold standard) and the Special K for variety. (I also give him different berries for variety.)
Target sells the Special K for $2.99 for a 13.5 oz box. I have also seen this cereal on sale for 2 for $5. Total Protein, on the other hand, is $4.29 at Market Basket, the cheapest store around. It is considerably more at other chains. To me, this is a no contest knockdown. It will be interesting to see how General Mills' Total Protein responds.
Now, my son will eat the Special K, but it just isn't Cocoa Puffs or some other sugar-laden cereal that he would love to be able to eat!

These new cereals might have lower net carbs than their original versions, but they are still pretty high to be marketed as "low carb" if you ask me.

I love the Atkins Carb Countdown yogurt, but cannot find it in any markets nearby in New York City (Manhattan). My zip code is 10017. Can you tell me who carries it? Thank you.

Kellog's Special K Protein has high fructose corn syrup in it. I don't know about Total Protein.
