Everyone is talking about the the high cost of low-carb diets. There is no question, low carb diets do cost more, but you can be smart about it.
First, don't buy your food on Home Shopping Network. (This combines high cost and high carb combinations for people who aren't educated. Post to come.) Second, read my post on how to do low carb more cheaply.
And, just for emphasis, explore the stores in your area. Just yesterday(on a Tuesday) I went to my small local market that is known for much higher prices and walked away with some great food for $40. I was able to get 5 lbs. of extremely lean stew beef for $1.99 a pound. (It had to be used that day or frozen, I just put it in the slow cooker.) Corned beef (flat cut -- not point cut) for $1.49 a pound. (Two packages! It was scheduled to expire on May 7.) Rosemary ham at the deli for $4.99 a lb. (I bought almost 2 lbs.) It happened to be on sale and it is my daughter's favorite. Two half-gallons of Light'n Healthy Tropicana for $4. Two steaks that my husband cooked up on the grill for $7. They were also scheduled to expire that day. These were great steaks! The cashier complimented me on my shopping acumen and said, "Wow, I thought for sure this would cost a lot more!" So don't always avoid the smaller pricier markets. If you go mid-week mid-morning, you can usually get some good buys on meat.
As for cheaper fish, try Costco or BJs on a Friday! (Of course, we live just north of Boston so I just have to go to a local fish market for the really fresh fish.)
