I am very surprised that it has taken Heinz so long to roll out their One Carb Ketchup. Why? Because it is great! It is right up there with regular Heinz and I should know, it passed my kids' test -- and not a blind taste test either, a fully "stacked to fail" taste test.
We had just finished our regular ketchup, and the kids needed some more ketchup for their chicken fingers. Well, I took out the Heinz One Carb, and my eagle-eyed daughter said, "Oh, mom, not low carb!" (She had been the victim of horrible low carb ketchups in the past, and she wasn't eager for a repeat experience.)
I told her, "Look at the bottle. It is Heinz, just like your normal ketchup.... come on, give it a try." I then squeezed it out onto her plate, and it even had the same reassuring look including color and consistency as the regular Heinz ketchup.
"O.K., I'll try it," she said begrudgingly after I told her that we didn't have any more regular ketchup.
She then immediately went on to finish her chicken fingers.
"So, what do you think of the ketchup?" I asked.
"It tastes like regular ketchup," she said. My son just ate the ketchup with no comment because it was just like the regular ketchup.
There is no more eloquent endorsement.
Right now only Stop & Shop stocks it in our area... I'm always looking for more stores to carry it because then the price should come down. It costs about 1/3 more than regular ketchup ($2.50 per pound versus $14.7 per pound) at Stop & Shop or $2.19 for 14 oz. And the way we go through ketchup around here....
