Update: I just completed a HUGE post, Dreamfield's Pasta Review... What Would Atkins Say... and What Will the Markets Say?.
I just received this question from Rebecca:
I was doing a search for Dreamfield's low carb pasta and I came across your page. I think Dreamfield's is listed somewhere in your page but I can't find it. I am wondering where I can purchase this pasta? I did an internet search and can't find anywhere to purchase it. If you look under Google under "buy dreamfield's pasta, your page comes up which is why I'm hoping you can help.
My reference to Dreamfield's was on the February 22nd post of Low Carb Grocery List Based on Sales Circulars. (Every week I go through all the circulars that I get and post what is on sale or listed. You can see the past weeks and the current week by clicking on the navigation bar on the left-hand side of this page. I also have shopping lists for each store. To see ALL my posts, go down the navigation bar to archives and click on them by month.)
In that post I say:
Wow, Shaw's is pre-announcing two more low carb pastas, Mueller's Reduced Carb Pasta and Dreamfields Low Digestible Carb Pasta! I can't wait to try them!
I haven't seen Dreamfield's at Shaws yet, but I have to go on another scouting mission. (I haven't been there in a week, and it seems that new products just come in at any time.) If you have seen Dreamfield's pasta at any store, please post in the comments section so others can be helped!
And if there are no stores around you, you can purchase Dreamfield's from netrition.com.
I did some research today on the Dreamfield's pasta and spoke with the company. Their Web address is www.dreamfieldsfoods.com. The pasta will be available to purchase over their Website by the end of the month. They informed me that the pasta is now supposed to be on the following store's shelves: Safeway, Kroger's, Acme, Wegman's. However I called many of those stores and none of them have it. So it seems like going to the Website at the end of the month may be the best bet.

This pasta is absolutely amazing. I found it at Kroger's in Cincinnati, and hear from friends it's at other Kroger's in the Midwest as of March 1. It really tastes just like 'normal' pasta, but will only 5 carbs!

I purchased the linguini, mac shells and penne pasta at King Soopers in Aurora, CO. Was listed in the sale ad at 2-$4.00. DF loved it!! He was getting pretty tired of spaghetti squash :)

Hi. I found Dreamfield's pasta by accident as the guy was unloading it from the cart onto the shelves for the first time, in my local Wegman's. I couldn't really believe my eyes (and taste buds), because it looks and tastes totally like regular pasta, and the other low-carb pastas are just awful! I, too, went to the site, but I really want to know more about it before I am convinced that it's OK to eat without spiking my insulin levels. Does anyone have more information on it, e.g., Why don't they use the term "effective carbs?", "What is the scietific reason it's low carb?" etc. Thanks.

I have tried this pasta and it is by far the best tasting pasta in the market plus it only has 5 net carbs. I think the next closest product has like 15 carbs and it tastes like soy biscuits, its discolored and cooks up all wierd...YUGHHHH...This stuff is a miracle product because it is pasta and tastes exactly like pasta...REJOICE We CAN EAT PASTA AGAIN!!!! This is by far the best tasting low carb dry good on the market across all food lines...

I cannot get enough of this stuff. For those having questions about how they can do this, check out the FAQ in the webstite "dreamfieldsfoods.com". It does feel like you are cheating, but they address how they do it. I am a believer!!

Dreamfields is great! Tastes just like regular pasta. I've also been told that it will be available in Walmart in the coming weeks. It's made my menu planning much easier because my whole family eats it. I no longer have to cook a separate dish for my husband and my self when we want spaghetti or mac and cheese. I LOVE this stuff!!!!

I love the Dreamfields Pasta but am still sceptical of the carb count. I have not come across "digestible carbs" and have been doing Atkins for over a year. Can anyone explain this to me?
THANKS

Just a personal comment about this product. Yes it tastes just like pasta, but I am not so sure of this 5grams of "digestable carbs" claim. I am a type two diabete and use diet to control my blood sugar without medication. I was "thrilled" at the prospect of being able to eat a normal portion of pasta and picked up some of the Dreamfields pasta. I've tired this product 3 times (just a 2oz. portion) and all three times my blood sugar level jumped 50 - 70 points (...yea, that's a lot). It might just be me, but I am getting the impression that they might be marketing this product as something it's not by using this "digestable carbs" label. If I wasn't checking my blood sugar levels I would have never noticed this and would have assumed that I was sticking to my diet. Those of you out there who don't have to test your blood sugars may be getting a much higher dose of carbs than you think you are getting. I'd be very interested in seeing further research on this product. "I knew it was too good to be true."

I am responding to Frank Black's e-mail from 3/17. I am also a type 2 Diabetic and have been controlling my blood sugar levels through diet and exercise without medication. I've been waiting a long time for such a fantastic product as I am a huge pasta lover! I've tried the product several times with great results. I did my own experiment today, my level was 119 and 2 hours post meal it was only at 124. A 5 point differential post meal would be the same as eating sausage and eggs for me. I ate between 4-5 oz of Dreamfields pasta (which is more than a double serving) along with sausage and red sauce (includes a minor amount of sugar). In the past after eating regular pasta my levels jumped up to 220 and takes more than a day to stabilize. I've tried all other brands of low-carb pasta and this is by far the best tasting and has the best texture. My advice would be to watch what else you are eating or drinking with it and give this pasta another try. I feel that this is an outstanding product and would recommend it to everyone without hesitation.

Hey Duane, thanks for the feedback. I was curious if it was just me or if the product didn't provide what it claimed. Since you seem not to have any problems with this product I guess I'll "experiment" on myself with the product a little more. Perhaps it was something else I had eaten along with the pasta, but I don't think so. Maybe this product just effects people differently. Just my luck I'd be one of those. Thanks again for the info Duane. Take care.

For those of you looking for this product - I just bought two boxes on sale at Wegmans. 2 for $4.00. I have yet to try it, but from all the reviews - I can't wait. I AM a bit skeptical about the 5 "digestible" carb claim though...

In regards to 5 digestible carbs I think it is the non atkins version of "net carbs" which is an Atkins trademark name I believe....I have tried dreamfields while on a low carb diet and used ketosis strips that provide "color confirmation" of being in ketosis...this product did not put me out of ketosis at all which means the claim is accurate...and did you notice the GREAT TASTE! Now all we need is low carb tomatoe sauce

As a Type 2 diabetic, I want to recommend a great new product, Dreamfields Low Carb Pasta. After having one portion of Dreamfields pasta, and a salad, my blood glucose only went up 6 points. Dreamfields also tastes like regular pasta, great pasta taste.

This is good news, especially to an early investor in the company Dakota Growers Pasta in Carrington, ND. My questions at the annual meeting for shareholders related to diabetes and also the possible use of the "protected carbs" patented process with organic durum products. DGPasta teamed up with a technology group and an equipment manufacturer to offer this product. It could well flow into other wheat products.

I am a rep for U.S foodservice, and this product is new to me. Our division out of streator IL. is stocking the Dreamfields spagetti for our customers. I tried it tonight and it was unbelievable! Does anyone know if this is a publicly traded company, and what the symbol is?

I bought the dreamfields linguini at Safeway...just spotted it on the shelf and the color and texture looked alright...I couldn't believe how great this stuff was! my kids ate it up, and having tried a bunch of the other lo carb pastas, which I couldn't swallow, I was amazed. I have trouble believing it's only 5net carbs, but I did notice there was no starchy residue at all. Do they have a website?

I have just purchased Dreamfields pasta and am excited(yet nervous)to try it! I wanted to go to their website to get more info on the "too good to be true" carb count...but all the comes up when I put in their address is THIS website. Can anyone help me?Thanks-

I too love the taste but decided to do some more research on what "digestible carbs" are. I am especially skeptical since I've been eating the leftovers for lunch for a few days now. I noticed that I'm getting chunkier around the middle, have headaches after I eat it & get hungry again very quickly, all signs that I'm eating a higher carb product than I'm used to (the way my body reacts at least). On their website, they say that the product has the same amount of carbs as regular pasta but that most of these are "protected" to pass unabsorbed directly into the colon. I find this very hard to believe especially since the pasta has almost the same amount of durum wheat semolina as regular pasta. Since they don't explain how they use their "unique blend of fibers and proteins" to lower the carb content, I think I'll hold off buying this product again until I see more reviews & maybe some independent, 3rd party testing....

I really believe the Dreamfields digestible carbs claim is for real, especially after looking at the FAQs and Advisory Board members on their website (www.dreamfieldsfoods.com). Also, I have a friend who is a diabetic, and he loves the stuff...and he tests his blood sugar level frequently.

Just bought this today at a Walmart in the greater Atlanta area and can't wait to try it. I must say that after 11 months on Atkins, I am nervous to give this a try...it sounds like the results have been at both ends of the spectrum as far as insulin levels are concerned. I also do not want the headaches that come from carb ingestion. After loving almost 50 lbs, I am not looking to get back any of the weight. Maybe I'll go ahead and buy more and wait for additional information on the product before giving it a try. You can tell the things that are the best, because they can never keep them stocked.

Roy Burch,
The company making this product is a Public Company but not yet public as in IPO/NYSE yet. www.dakotagrowers.com Click on Investors which sends you to links on how to buy stock in this company.
KRISTY..As to the researched product ...This product indeed has been highly researched by world class food scientists. Please go to the website www.dreamfieldsfoods.com or www.dakotagrowers.com and email them and I am sure bet they would be happy to answer any questions you have about the product. The www.dreamfieldsfoods.com site will soon have internet ordering available.
Ohh and also...Isn't this product the best tasting low carb dry good on the market Pasta or otherwise...I think so...
By the Way...Digestible Carbs is like "Net Carbs" except "New Carbs" is a licensed trademark word of "Atkins"...hence they need to use "Digestible Carbs" instead the tradmarked "Net Carbs" of Atkins.

No one has trademarked the expression "net carbs." It's a very common usage and, as such, not protectable.
This is from the Dreamfields web site:
"How are "digestible carbs" different from "net carbs"?
First, it is important to note that "net carbs" is a term that marketers have been popularizing, but "net carbs" is not recognized by the FDA, and in fact, may not be an accurate measurement. That’s why we felt that there needed to be a more scientific basis for truly understanding the “carb effect” of different foods.
DREAMFIELDS “Digestible carbs” are determined by a clinical method that measures the blood glucose response of the whole food to establish its glycemic load or content of digestible carbohydrates. It is not determined simply by estimating the digestibility of individual food components. It is clinically measured using procedural guidelines established by the FDA.
In contrast, “net carbs” are typically not established by testing a food in a clinical setting, but are arrived at by summing the estimated digestible carbohydrate levels of a food’s individual components. Thus “net carbs” becomes a rough estimate of the food’s glycemic load or digestible carbohydrate content. It is not unusual for ingredients to be declared as having negligible blood glucose effects when they actually could have a significant impact. Therefore, we believe that digestible carbs, and the process by which they are determined, is a more accurate measurement."
Digestible carbs is like glycemic load rather than net carbs, according to the web site.

I tried dreamfield penne pasta and it sure did taste great, bought it at Walmart in Westboro, MA. It tastes just like regular pasta. I too am skeptical about the "digestible carbs" how do we know that this pasta is any different than "prince" or "muellers"?? Bella Vita makes their "low carb" pasta different than before,(Trader Joes used to carry it.) now it tastes awful...i would be cautious before endulging.

I bought the dreamfields pasta and i am very confused about how you fiqure out the carbs. I have diabetes which i received during my pregnancy, and it never went away. My son is 13 months now and i still have diabetes. However I tried the pasta and my numbers went up. So i tried again, and again my number was high. so can you help me out with the way you fiqure out the total carbs? Also when i eat regular pasta my number really never went up. The portions were a lot smaller of course, so that is the reason i was so happy about dreamfields coming out with a low carb pasta. HELP!!!!!

I just wanted to tell you that I'm so happy to find a product like Dreamfields pasta. Since we have been on the Atkins diet we haven't been able to include any pasta in our diet until now. We just want to say Thank You. We love our pasta. I'v tried several of the other products of low carb pasta and they taste terrible. Dreamfields taste like real pasta.
You have a costomer for life.

Has anyone in the first stage of low carb dieting tested with keto sticks to see if they remained in ketosis after using dreamfields?

I love the Dreamfield macaroni. It makes wonderful mac and cheese. Our Walmart in Lebanon, Tn. does not carry this brand anymore. Does anyone know where I can purchase these products

I understand that Kroger is carrying Dreamfields. Safeway also carries it. A regional store in my area has the whole line.
Posted by: mikey | July 04, 2005 at 12:56 PM
I notice the dates on previous postings go back over a year and yet Dreamfields pasta has just now arrived in the Pacific Northwest, advertised on TV. Fred Meyer (Kroger) carries it in Seattle but the other Kroger outlet QFC doesn't: $2.49 a box. Our Safeway does not carry.
My real question is does anyone know anything factual about this pasta not being so low carb after it sits in refrig overnight, or gets chilled, or even overcooked. I saw a reference to that on another site. Is it possible that something they do to it to make it low carb, breaks down in time?
Posted by: pjs | July 22, 2005 at 04:53 PM
I tried Dreamfields pasta about six months ago and it tastes just like regular pasta without the guilt.I followed Atkins and lost 22 lbs.I found this pasta at our local Walmart in NewPhiladelphia,OH. But,now they do not carry it because of lack of sale .I think it was a lack of advertisement that might of hurt the sale of this product. If you never heard of it and how good it tastes, why would you buy it?I went to all the local Walmarts and bought what little stock they had on the shelves,so I guess I will have to order on line when I run out.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.
YOU DIABETICS WITH THE ABILITY TO CHECK YOUR LEVELS. I HAVE A DIFFERENT QUESTION FOR YOU.
A COOK ON TV (CHEF FOR THOSE IN THE FOOD INDUSTRY) CLAIMED THAT BY PUTTING YOUR PEELED RAW FRENCH FRIES IN ICED WATER, YOU COULD REMOVE THE STARCH.I TRIED THIS AND GOT WHITE POWDERY STUFF IN THE BOWL. WITH HASH BROWNS I REALLY GOT ALOT OF THE WHITE POWDER.
ANYONE HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE WITH THIS?

I work at a really boinrg job and this is sometimes the only thing that keeps me from falling asleep. I have never had any real issues from it unless you drink too much. Then yes you can get super hyper and the shakes but there is a warning on the can for that. I have gotten really bad reactions from other drinks like ucky stomach feelings and shakey immediately but this never does that to me. Also, lo carb like 9 calories in the whole can. Awesome!!!

You want to drink at least half your body weight in onecus of water per day. This will allow free radicals out of your body along with other waste. You should drink a lot of water wth any diet, not just certain ones.
