Hood came out with a new product earlier in the fall called Carb Countdown. We only just tried it... because we only just found out about it. (This happens too many times in the low-carb world. If you are a manufacturer, please email me or send me a sample of your product so I can spead the word.)
I have tried the regular version in my house. The kids love it! It is extremely rich and creamy. I think it tastes great. My husband tried it with his Hi-Lo Cereal and still prefers cream so I will still stock two dairy products in my refrigerator, Carb Countdown (instead of whole milk) and heavy cream. (He doesn't use a lot of heavy cream in his cereal.)
This is a fantastic development! A good friend of mine loves milk and really missed it on the Atkins diet. If she drank a cup of heavy cream, that would be 800 calories! With Carb Countdown, she gets 130 calories and only 3 grams of carbs.
I intend to use it to make eggnog as well. It will cut the calories. And I intend to put cinnamon in my eggnog since "diabetics who incorporated one gram -- equivalent to less than one-quarter teaspoon -- of cinnamon per day for 40 days into their normal diets experienced a decrease in levels of blood sugar, cholesterol and blood fats." Not that I am diabetic, but it certainly sounds as though it couldn't hurt. (Update: Here is another link in case that link expires.)
Carb Countdown also has a 2% reduced fat chocolate version, a 2% reduced fat regular version, and a fat free version.
I wonder how the chocolate milk version tastes after it is heated up?
Carb Countdown also comes in a fat free version now--it is very good and tastes almost identical to regular milk. It is a bit expensive, though.

Is there anything similar to carb countdown milk on the west coast?
